Episode 14: Norm Charlton - Part Two

LISTEN HERE

Part two of Bernie’s conversation with Norm Charlton focuses on Norm’s post-Cincinnati career with an emphasis on his three separate stints with the Seattle Mariners. You’ll hear about the circuitous route Norm traveled through six Major League cities and how the road always seemed to lead back to Seattle, where he played a key role on the two most beloved teams in franchise history; the 1995 “Refuse to Lose” AL West Division Champs and the 2001 edition, notable for their record-tying 116-win regular season. Stories include: the Curtain Call at the Kingdome following the 1995 ALCS loss to the Indians; the day-to-day brilliance of Ichiro Suzuki, and the number one memory of Norm’s career (hint: it’s not what you think). Later, Norm talks about his fishing charter business and doing his part in community rescue efforts following the devastation of Hurricane Harvey in 2017. Finally, Bernie gets Norm’s thoughts on the declining popularity of today’s game before the former Nasty Boy expresses his gratitude for his career in baseball as “the best thing that ever happened to me in my life.”
